About the Study
In 2025, the Sumner County Opioid Abatement Committee commissioned an independent Substance Use Needs Assessment from the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service, SMART Division. As part of this effort, the Institute engaged key informants, including members of the County Commission, the Prevention Coalition, local schools, and other stakeholders, to conduct interviews related to opioid abatement and remediation efforts within the County.
On April 27, 2026, the findings of the assessment were presented to the Sumner County Opioid Abatement Committee. However, due to technical difficulties with the projector, the accompanying PowerPoint presentation could not be delivered. The PowerPoint materials are provided on this site to supplement and provide additional context to the assessment.
The needs assessment document was distributed to Committee members and attendees at the meeting. A revised version of the handout, dated April 30, 2026, is also included on this site. Additionally, an unpublished handout titled Sumner Evidence-Based Prevention Programs is provided to offer further context regarding current prevention efforts.
