Sumner County Library System

Five For One and One For All

Over the next several months, we’ll be combining our five Sumner County Libraries into the Sumner County Library System! Featuring more services, a simpler interlibrary loan system, expanded programs, and a system-wide library card, this change will bring the BEST to our Sumner County communities.

Each of our libraries has their own unique place in their hometowns, and we can’t wait to share more about them with the greater Sumner County community. Did you know that the Portland Library has a museum on-site? What about Hendersonville’s Sensory Friendly Room for children? Our libraries are full of hidden treasures, and we’ll be diving into what makes each library special (amazing staff included!).

Same Friendly Faces. Same Friendly Spaces. Uniting to serve YOU best!

Five for one and one for all - Sumner County Library System

The libraries are operated by the Sumner County Commission which appoints and oversees the Board of Trustees as it sets policy for library operations.  Funding is provided primarily by Sumner County Government and each city government with help from the Friends of the Library.  A cooperative effort was utilized in building with funding from the county, city, and private donors.

Libraries are among the most effective of all public services, serving more than two-thirds of the public with four percent of all tax dollars.  Sumner County libraries provide valuable resources at the local level and serve as a link to the free resources offered by the Tennessee State Library and Archives; the Tennessee Electronic Library  and the Regional E-book and Audiobook Dowload System (READS).

Sumner County Library Board

The Library Board meets every other month, alternating between library sites.  All meetings are open to the public and interested individuals are encouraged to attend.  To review the the minutes from the meetings please email Jane.Wheatcraft@sumnercountytn.gov to request a copy.
