This position works under the supervision of the Library Director to perform the duties necessary in the Circulation and Reference areas to effectively facilitate library operations. This position works 40 hours per week, as assigned by the Library Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
- This position is responsible for the operation of the Mobile Library to promote and build awareness of public library’s products and services in the community.
- Use technology on a daily basis: automated circulation system, e-book devices, and public computers.
- Provide prompt, courteous, and direct assistance to customers with information regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services.
- Keep the facility clean and neat, which includes: maintaining bathrooms and cleaning shelves and furniture.
- Create and maintain library accounts, collect and reconcile fines, and circulate materials.
- Efficiently operate common office machinery, such as: telephones, copiers, printers, and fax machines.
- Present self as a positive, unbiased, and professional role model; which includes but is not limited to, having a pleasant attitude, refrain from using profanity, keeping personal beliefs (religious, political and otherwise) to oneself, and remaining professional with library guests at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect individual privacy and rights in dealing with customer and/or employee records and personal information.
- Adhere to and enforce all library and county policies, procedures and restrictions.
- Maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships with public, peers, and supervisors.
- May perform, or assist with, a variety of other daily duties as assigned or necessary for the daily operations of the library, including but not limited to: daily opening and closing procedures, serving customers of all ages, performing shelf reading, weeding, assisting other employees and departments, and routine shelving.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree or equitable Library experience
- Must possess and maintain a Tennessee Driver’s license.
- Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software, a variety of Internet browsers and e-mail service providers
- Stamina for extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping and kneeling
- Must exhibit the ability to be a positive influence while representing the library
- Ability to think creatively and collaboratively to implement big ideas into programs, events, and improvements to guest experiences
- Knowledge of standard library procedures, practices, and methods
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, and people, in a polite and professional manner
