A Sumner County Juvenile Court Youth Services Officer (YSO) will work under the direction of Judge David Howard and Magistrate Erin Begley to perform Preliminary Inquiries for youths charged with status and
misdemeanor offenses. A YSO will interview youths and family members during Preliminary Inquiries and develop Informal Adjustment or Pretrial Diversion Agreements contemplating appropriate requirements
related to the youths’ charges and making appropriate referrals to community services. A YSO will also
perform the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment on any youth who is adjudicated delinquent and not placed on any level of supervision. Further, this YSO position will require the management of the Sumner County Juvenile Court’s Insight Program, a drug and alcohol class that takes place three evenings every month.
